Great American Swing Dance to be Held at the Library

May 27, 2015
By BCPL

The Boyle County Public Library and the Friends of the Library will host the Great American Swing Dance on Thursday, June 4th from 7:30-9:00 pm in the Library Park as part of the Great American Brass Band Festival. The event will feature a Community Arts Center-sponsored swing dance lesson given by Wes Bratcher from 7:30-8:00 pm, followed by a Swing Dance from 8:00-9:00 pm. Music for the dance will be provided by The Town Branch Five Plus Two. The swing dance lesson, dance, and concert are free and open to the public.  (In the event of rain, the dance lesson will be held in the Community Room, with the swing dance being held in the Library Lobby.)

The Town Branch Five Plus Two (usually known as the Walnut Street Ramblers) formed in 2006, and has played at many locations and festivals in Kentucky. In 2011 and 2012, the band was invited to tour Spain and performed in festivals and concerts on the Mediterranean coast near Barcelona, in Bilbao, Palma de Mallorca, Puente Pumar, and Santander. Several of their performances were recorded and broadcast on Spanish National Radio. The band’s repertoire spans ragtime-era music, New Orleans traditional jazz, and hot 1920s music. They have adopted a nom de guerre for the Great American Brass Band Festival, feeling that the name The Town Branch Five Plus Two reflects a little extra kick toward recreating the spirit and scene of 1920s-era jazz. More information about the band can be found at walnutstreetramblers.com.

The Community Arts Center (CAC) offers classes, camps, and lessons throughout the year to provide high-quality arts education to the community. Music and voice lessons, as well as dance, painting, and drawing classes are available for children and adults. Local, regional, national, and international artists are featured in the CAC’s galleries. More information about the CAC can be found online at communityartscenter.net.
