End-of-Summer Storytime Break

There will be no Toddler, Preschool, and Homeschool Storytimes at the Library July 27th through August 5th. Storytimes will resume at their regularly scheduled times on August 11th after the two-week hiatus.


Toddler Storytime (for children ages 18 months – 2 years, with a parent or caregiver) will be held on Tuesdays at 10:30 am. Preschool Storytime (for children ages 3 to 5 years) will be held on Tuesdays at 11:30 am and Wednesdays at 10:30 am. These storytime programs feature stories, songs, rhymes, and puppets.


Homeschool Storytime will be held on Wednesdays at 11:15 am. In this program, children will learn about a special topic each week and connect with other homeschoolers. All of the storytimes will be held in the Children’s Library.


Storytime is a great way to introduce your young child to the Library. If you have any questions about this or other children's programs, contact (or stop by and visit) Ms. Libby or Ms. Kate in the Children's Library.

Crime Scene Investigation

Tweens can attempt to solve a fictional crime by visiting a mock crime scene, examining clues, and interrogating persons of interest. After gathering all the evidence, you must try to determine which suspect is guilty!

Back-to-School D.I.Y. Workshop for Teens

The Library will host a Back-to-School D.I.Y. Workshop for teens on Friday, July 24th beginning at 10:00 am. Teens will be able to make personalized school supplies for their lockers. Library to Host Comic Con for Teens

As part of the Teen Summer Reading Program, the Boyle County Public Library will be hosting "Comic Con" on Thursday, July 23rd at 6:00 pm in the Community Room. Teens (ages 13-18) can enjoy superhero cosplay at the Library.


Participants can come in costume or build one when they arrive. Activities include cape creation, mask making, comic Mad Libs, superhero cookie decorating, a superhero photo booth, and a costume fashion show. Registration is required.

Magician Presto Paul to Visit the Library

Magician Presto Paul will visit the Library on Thursday, July 16th at 2:00 pm. Patrons will be amazed by this master of illusion as he dazzles the audience with his sleight of hand and magic tricks.  Due to limited seating at the Library, this will be a ticketed event. The tickets are free and will be given out 30 minutes prior to the start of the performance.

Newport Aquarium to Bring Penguins and Alligators to the Library

As part of the 2015 Children's Summer Reading Program, the Boyle County Public Library will offer a "meet and greet" with penguins and alligators on Tuesday, July 14th at 1:00 pm. Patrons will learn the who, what, where, when, and why of the penguins and alligators, presented by the Newport Aquarium. Guests will even have the opportunity to interact with and touch the animals.  Due to limited seating at the Library, this will be a ticketed event. The tickets are free and will be given out 30 minutes prior to the start of the performance.

Local Heroes Program Series

As part of the Summer Reading Program, the Boyle County Public Library will be hosting a three-part series in July called “Local Heroes Keep Us Safe.” The series will bring local firefighters and law enforcement officers to the Library so patrons of all ages can learn more about these local heroes and how they help our community.


Boyle County Sheriff's Office K-9 Unit Demonstration

The first event in the series will be held on on Wednesday, July 8th at 2:00 pm when Boyle County Deputy Sheriff and K-9 handler Derrick Robbins demonstrates how Djanco, a full-service police K-9, keeps the community safe.


City of Danville Fire Department "Touch a Truck"

The second event in this three-part series will be held on Wednesday, July 15th at 2:00 pm when the City of Danville Fire Department brings “Touch a Truck” to the Library. Children will be able to explore the fire truck and learn about the tools and uniforms used by these local heroes.


Danville Police Department Demonstration

The final event in this three-part series will be held on Wednesday, July 22nd at 2:00 pm when the Danville Police Department visits the Library. Children will be able to explore the police car and learn about the tools law enforcement officers use to keep us safe.

Silly Safaris to Visit the Library

As part of the 2015 Summer Reading Program, Silly Safaris will offer two performances on Thursday, July 9th. The first performance will be held at 12:00 pm in the Hogsett Elementary School cafeteria. The show is open to the public. The second performance begins at 2:00 pm in the Community Room at the Boyle County Public Library.


Both shows will feature Amazon John, a lively funologist who brings a high-energy, zany theatrical performance featuring a variety of animals. This entertaining and interactive show will include mammals, reptiles, birds, amphibians, and bugs.  Due to limited seating at the Library, the two o’clock performance will be a ticketed event. The tickets are free and will be given out 30 minutes prior to the start of the performance.
