Summer Reading Grand Prize Winners Announced

The Library is pleased to announce the Grand Prize winners of the 2015 Summer Reading Program. Two new bicycles were donated by Webster Orthodontics in Danville to be given away in a drawing at the end of Summer Reading. All children who completed a reading log were entered to win.



Cassandra Lyons, (pictured here with Charlie Webster, son of Dr. Will Webster) and Ben Shreve (not pictured) were the lucky recipients of the bicycles. The children were able to select their new bikes at Danville Bike and Footwear.

Library to Host Social Hour for Senior Adults

The Library will host a Seniors' Social Hour on Wednesday, August 26th at 9:30 am. Each month the Library will host a social gathering of senior adults for an informational presentation about relevant topics. In August, local seniors will have the opportunity to get to know Maggie Myers, the Library's Adult Programming Coordinator. During this first meeting, Maggie will be seeking input from area seniors about possible topics of interest to be covered at future socials.


This free event will be held in the Community Room. Light refreshments will be served.

New Program Series for Adults

The Library will offer a monthly "Adult How-To" program series beginning on Monday, August 24th at 6:00 pm. Each month, participants will explore information and skills needed for a new hobby or activity, guided by a local expert. In August, the program "Adult How-To: Honey Bee Health" will feature local bee keeper Janis Scott. Program attendees will learn why honey bees are important and how we can promote pollinator health.


This free event will be held in the Community Room. Light refreshments will be served.

Library Resources Tour Offered

The hour-long tour will begin in the Rotunda and end in the Computer Lab, and will highlight the many free resources the Library has to offer. Girls Who Code Club Starting at the Library

Starting in August, the Library will begin hosting a Girls Who Code Club. This club is designed specifically for girls in middle school, and will introduce coding and computer programming to girls who are interested in learning about computer science.


The first meeting of the Girls Who Code Club will be held on Monday, August 17th at 3:30 pm in the Computer Lab at the Library. Subsequent meetings will be held on Monday afternoons and will run through mid-December. No experience is necessary, however due to limited space registration is required. (If the need and interest exists, other coding groups may be forming for those students who are not middle school aged girls.)

Upcycle Workshop for Teens

The Library will host a D.I.Y. Up-cycle Workshop for teens on Thursday, August 13th at 4:00 pm. At this new monthly program, we’ll give used or worn out items new life. In August we’ll turn old t-shirts into no-sew throw pillows. Those interested in attending will need to bring an old, clean t-shirt; the Library will provide additional supplies. New Art Exhibit in the Mahan Gallery

The Boyle County Public Library announces the opening of the August 2015 art exhibit in the Mahan Gallery. The exhibit, "Some Things Old and New," features a collection of oil paintings by local artist, Allen Arth. It is made up of artwork from his early years as an artist to his most recent endeavors. In addition to the paintings, the exhibit – which will run through the end of the month - also includes wood-fired pottery and Indian beadwork. The public is invited to attend an Artist Reception which will be held at the Library in the Mahan Gallery on Monday, August 10, 2015 from 6:30-8:00 pm.



The Mahan Gallery features the artwork of area artists and traveling exhibits. The gallery is located just off the main floor of the Library in the Mahan House and is open to the public during regular Library hours.
