"A Trek to Mt. Everest Base Camp" Program at the Library

The Library will host "A Trek to Mt. Everest Base Camp" on Thursday, February 12, 2015 at 7:00 pm in the Community Room. During the program, Buck Rogers and Jeff Meyers will discuss their trip to the Mt. Everest Base Camp in Nepal. The program will feature an introduction about their adventure, a slideshow with photos from the trek, followed by a question and answer session.

Book Signing with Football Coach David Buchanan

The Library will host a book signing with David Buchanan on Saturday, January 31, 2015 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm. Buchanan’s book, Black Shoes & White Shoestrings, is a collection of football and life lessons learned from a variety of coaches at the high school, collegiate, and professional level. Copies of the book will be available for purchase during his visit.

Some of the football programs highlighted in the book include Boyle County Rebels, Centre College Colonels, Danville Admirals, Mason County Royals, Cleveland Browns, Kentucky Wildcats, Harrodsburg Hogs, and Mercer County Scotties. Life lessons from coaches like Chuck Smith, Larry French, Blanton Collier, Alvis Johnson, and Sam Harp are included. Many other football programs, players, and coaches are also covered in the book.

David Buchanan is the head football coach at Mason County High School in Maysville, Kentucky and was previously the head coach at Paris High School (KY). He is a graduate of Mercer County High School and Centre College. Buchanan has served as president of the Kentucky Football Coaches Association and as head coach for the Kentucky All-Stars in their annual Kentucky-Tennessee All-Star Classic. He is the son of John Buchanan, a former head coach at Boyle County High School and Mercer County High School. David is married to Stephanie Trosper, and they have 3 children, John Combs, Emma, and Trosper.

January Jubilee Celebration at the Library

The Boyle County Public Library invites you to the January Jubilee, celebrating five years since the grand re-opening of the Library. Special events will be held at the Library throughout the month beginning on Sunday, January 11, 2015 at 3:00 pm with a Jubilee Reception featuring music by the jazz group Five.

Additional Jubilee events include an art exhibit in the Mahan Gallery featuring staff artwork; a Purplicious Party for Kids; Cupcake Decorating for Tweens; Wednesday Afternoon Storytime; a "Get to Know Your Library" Scavenger hunt; plus a prop-filled Selfies Booth. Patrons can also enjoy an afternoon program featuring Kentucky Humanities Council Speaker Normandi Ellis at the Friends of the Library Annual Tea. Ms. Ellis will perform "My Mother Was a Character -- Aren't Most Mothers?" on Thursday, January 15th at 4:00 pm.

Adult Programming Coordinator

The Boyle County Public Library is looking for a creative and motivated person to act as Adult Programming Coordinator. This person will plan and implement programs that support existing library services, further the library’s long-range goals, respond to stated needs from library patrons, and enhance the Library’s partnership activities with other community agencies, all aimed at an adult audience.

The Adult Programming Coordinator will work collaboratively with all staff members, particularly the Education Outreach Coordinator and the PR Coordinator. This person, in consultation with other library staff, will seek to offer programs, exhibits, and events that complement the services/programs offered in other areas of the library including children and ‘Tweens, local history, local collections, current events, and scheduled classes.
