This Week at the Library: May 8-13, 2017

The Library offers many fun, educational events throughout the year. Weekly programs include Crafters Who Care on Mondays at 6:00 p.m., Storytimes on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, and Coding Clubs on Mondays and Wednesdays at 4:00 p.m. In addition to these weekly events, the following Library-sponsored programs are scheduled for this week:


Around the World with the 2M2 Book Club

The Reading Around the World: 2nd-Monday-at-2 Book Club (2M2) meets on the second Monday of the month at 2:00 p.m. in the Mahan House at the Library. Selections include fiction and historical fiction books set in locations around the world. On Monday, May 8th, the group will discuss People of the Book by Geraldine Brooks. Those interested in participating may register at the Circulation Desk in the Library.

Teens Write Tuesday

The Library hosts a monthly group for teens (ages 13-18) who love to write. Each month participants can bring a past original work to share or they can participate in the monthly writing prompt.  Teens Write meets on the second Tuesday of the month. The next workshop will be held on May 9th at 4:00 p.m. in the Conference Room at the Library.


Nutrition Condition (Week 6)

On Thursday May 11th at noon, the Library will be hosting "Nutrition Condition," a health and wellness workshop series offered in partnership with the Boyle County Cooperative Extension Office. Workshop participants will learn how to improve their nutrient intake and learn how to eat better on a budget. Registration is encouraged.

Sharpie Tie-Dye for Tweens

On Thursday, May 11th at 4:00 p.m., tweens (ages 9-13) are invited to create wearable works of art by making vibrant  tie-dye t-shirts using Sharpie markers. Registration is required. This event will be held in the Storytime Room.


Coloring and Conversation

The Library will host a coloring club for adults on Thursday, May 11th at 6:00 p.m. Many adults have rediscovered the joys of coloring as a way to relax and combat stress. The club, which is done in partnership with the Boyle County Cooperative Extension office, will meet on the second Monday of the month in the Mahan Gallery. Spring Book Sale

The Friends of the Library will be holding their annual Spring Book Sale on Thursday, May 11th through Saturday, May 13th at the Boyle County Public Library.  Sale hours are as follows:

May 11 – 3:00 – 8:00 p.m.

May 12 – 9:00 am – 5:00 p.m.

May 13 – 9:00 am – 3:00 p.m.

Proceeds of the sale will go toward Library programs and events funded by the Friends of the Library.


Computer Classes

In the ongoing effort to promote lifelong learning, the Library offers a wide variety of free computer classes every month. The following classes are scheduled for this week:

  • Computer Basics (Beginner) on Monday, May 8th at 11:00 a.m.
  • Internet Basics on Wednesday, May 10th at 11:00 a.m.

A complete listing of monthly computer classes can be found on the Library’s website. Those interested in attending any of the classes may register online or by calling the Library. In addition to these classes, one-on-one computer support is also available by appointment.
