This Week at the Library: September 11-16, 2017

The Boyle County Public Library offers many fun, educational events throughout the year. Weekly programs include Adult Storytime on Mondays at 9:00 a.m., Crafters Who Care on Mondays at 6:00 p.m., Coding Classes on Mondays and Thursdays at 4:00 p.m., and Storytimes on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. In addition to these weekly events, the following Library-sponsored programs are scheduled for this week:


Mahan Gallery Art Exhibit

The Library announces the opening of the September 2017 Mahan Gallery art exhibit, featuring photography by Glenn A. Ball. The exhibit, “Railroad Art: Passing through Danville,” features photographs of graffiti art on trains that have passed through Danville. The exhibit will be on display through September 30th.


Second Monday Book Discussion Group
Monday, September 11th at 3:00 p.m. 

The Second Monday Book Discussion Group meets on the second Monday of the month at 3:00 p.m. in the Mahan House at the Library. Selections include fiction and historical fiction books set in locations around the world. On Monday, September 11th, the group will discuss Flight of Gemma Hardy by Margot Livesey. Those interested in participating may register at the Circulation Desk in the Library.


Tween Book Club
Monday, September 11th at 4:00 p.m.

The Library offers a monthly book club for tweens (ages 9-13). On Monday, September 11th at 4:00 p.m., the group will discuss Esperanza Rising by Pam Muñoz Ryan. Snacks will be available. Any tweens interested in attending may register for the program by signing up in the Children’s Library.


Tween Event: Cupcake Wars
Thursday, September 14th at 4:00 p.m.

The Library will host “Cupcake Wars” on Thursday, September 14th at 4:00 p.m. Tweens will each decorate a cupcake based on any theme or book inspiration, then vote on the winning design. Registration is required. For ages 9-13.


Coloring and Conversation
Thursday, September 14th at 6:00 p.m.

The Library will host a coloring club for adults on Thursday, September 14th at 6:00 p.m. Many adults have rediscovered the joys of coloring as a way to relax and combat stress. The club, which is done in partnership with the Boyle County Cooperative Extension office, meets on the second Monday of the month in the Mahan Gallery.


Computer Classes

In the ongoing effort to promote lifelong learning, the Library offers a wide variety of free computer classes throughout month. This week the Library is offering the following classes:


Internet Basics on Tuesday, September 12 at 11:00 a.m.
This class will cover the basics of using the internet, including accessing websites, using different
browsers, common buttons and menus. (Computer Basics is recommended.)


eMail Basics on Thursday, September 14 at 11:00 a.m.
This class will proved new computer users with some basic skills to set up and use an email
account, including sending email and adding attachments. (Internet Basics recommended.)


A complete listing of monthly computer classes can be found on the Library's website. Those interested in attending any of the classes may register online or by calling the Library. In addition to these classes, one-on-one computer support is also available by appointment.
