This Week at the Library: December 16-22

Monday, December 17 • 4:30 p.m.

On Monday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. all ages are invited to watch an off-beat animated holiday movie in a whole new way. In The Nightmare Before Christmas, the king of Halloween Town attempts to put on Christmas, but can't get it quite right. During the movie you'll be prompted to interact during favorite scenes with activities and snacks. (Rated PG, 76 min) This event will be held in the Community Room.


Monday, December 17 • 4:30-7:30 p.m.

The library will host a Dungeons & Dragons club for teens on Monday, December 17 from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tweens (ages 9-13) are invited to come play this popular role-playing game in a social group setting. Food, refreshments, and gaming supplies will be provided. No experience is necessary to participate. Players who have their own dice, rulebooks, miniatures, etc., are welcome to bring them. Registration is recommended for participants of this event. (Ages 9-13)


ADULT HOW-TO: "Goal Setting"
Monday, December 17 • 6:00 p.m.

On Mondayevening at 6:00 p.m., learn how to set SMART goals and make vision boards to help you make any changes you resolve to make in the coming New Year. Alethea Price with the Boyle County Cooperative Extension Office will facilitate this event. This event will be held in the Mahan Gallery.


Tuesday, December 18 • 4:00 p.m.

On Tuesday, December 18 at 4:00 p.m. teens (ages 13-18) are invited to give their puzzle solving skills a work out with “Escape the Crate: Extinction,” a prehistoric escape room adventure. Participants can either work together to overcome the challenges, or compete against another team to see who can solve the puzzles first. This event will be held in the Conference Room.

Santa Claus will make a special appearance at the Library during regularly scheduled Toddler, Preschool, and Homeschool Storytimes this week. Enjoy storytime with Ms. Libby, then visit with Santa!

Preschool Storytime – Tuesdays at 11:30 a.m. & Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m.

Homeschool Storytime – Wednesdays at 11:30 a.m.


Thursday, December 20 • 10:00 a.m. & 4:00 p.m.

The Third Thursday Morning and Afternoon Book Discussion Groups will meet on Thursday, December 20 at 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., respectively. This month the Morning Discussion group will discuss Below Stairs by Margaret Powell. The Afternoon Discussion group will discuss A Dog's Purpose by W. Bruce Cameron. Those interested in participating in either group may pick up a copy of the book at the Circulation Desk in the Library.


Thursday, December 20 • 6:00 p.m.

The Library will host American Sign Language Conversation Group on Thursday evening at 6:00 p.m. This monthly event is community led and provides a casual location where people can practice using ASL. All levels of ASL learners or users are encouraged to participate. For more information, contact Caleb Conover at the Library.

Thursday, December 20 • 7:00 p.m.

The library will celebrate its 125th anniversary this month. As a lead up to the big event, weekly trivia nights will be held on Thursday evenings at 7:00 p.m. in the Community Room at the library. On Thursday, December 20, patrons can play trivia with a team to win items like tote bags, pens, travel mugs, and more. The categories will feature questions on BCPL, Kentucky libraries, and general library facts. All ages and families are welcome. (This is the final trivia night in this series.)
