Kentucky Holiday Hauntings

December 1, 2014
By BCPL

The Library will host "Kentucky Holiday Hauntings" on Tuesday, December 2nd at 2:30 pm in the Community Room at the Library. Roberta Simpson Brown will present this Kentucky Humanities Council program about Kentucky ghost stories related to the holidays. (If you think holidays and hauntings are an unlikely pair, you might recall that Andy Williams sang about "scary ghost stories" in the classic Christmas song "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year.")

Brown's talk relates stories from her books that are focused on true holiday hauntings in Kentucky. Some people do not know that Christmas, not Halloween, used to be the traditional time for ghost stories. Families and friends usually came for extended visits at holidays, and not having modern means of entertainment, they gathered around a fireplace or stove in winter or outside on the porch or under the stars in warm weather, and entertained themselves by telling ghost stories. This program reminds us of long ago Kentucky customs that are an important part of our heritage.

Those interested in attending this free program may register in-person at the Library's Circulation Desk, online at www.boylepublib.org, by calling 859.238.7323.
