February 10 is Library Legislative Day in Frankfort

“Some people like to get out of bed every day and start life like a fresh book just brewing
with possibilities. Maybe you can start with the possibility of going to Frankfort on February 10
for KPLA Library Legislative Day.

Another thrust of the video is to provide you with some talking points for your legislators:

RESTORE the funds for public library grants in the state budget.
FUND library construction grants.
FUND library bookmobile grants.
UNDERSTAND that Kentucky’s public libraries are resources for Kentuckians from the cradle to the grave.

For the first time this year, we are having a rally in the Capitol Rotunda on February 10 at
11:00am.  There, library supporters will hear from First Lady Jane Beshear and the co-chairs
of the Public Library Caucus: Senator Brandon Smith, Senator Robin Webb, Representative
Bob Damron, and Representative Bob DeWeese.  We have asked all of the other members
of the Public Library Caucus to come to the Rotunda and be recognized as well.
(Recently, we were very honored and excited to have the entire
Senate Democratic Caucus join the Public Library Caucus.  A complete list of Caucus members is here.)

The rest of the points that you need to know now:

Make appointments to meet with your legislators now.  (Call 502-564-8100 to do so.)
On February 10, wear yellow and say “library.”
If you can’t make it, send in a Support Kentucky’s Libraries postcard (the pdf is here).
If you can’t make it, call your legislator on the Legislative Message Line.  (800-372-7181)
If you can’t make it, send your legislator an email.  (www.lrc.ky.gov)

February 10, 2010.  Kentucky Public Library Association’s Legislative Day.  Come to Frankfort.  Wear yellow.  Say “library”.
