In the Spotlight

This multimedia exhibit features soundscapes created by local students from Danville High School and Boyle County High School. This exhibit is on display in the Georgia de Araujo Gallery at BCPL December 12, 2023-January 31, 2024.

The "Sound(e)scapes" exhibit is the culmination of a series of workshops facilitated by author Heather Henson and artist Elizabeth Haigh. Students read and discussed Henson's young adult novel, Wrecked, then worked with Haigh to create "soundscapes,” works of art that thoughtfully combine a variety of sounds to evoke a particular location or mood. Many of the students’ soundscapes were inspired by Wrecked or by another literary text of their choosing.

The goal of the project was to broaden the students' understanding of how different art forms - in this case, written word and sound - can complement one another and can serve as inspiration for artistic self-expression.
Visitors to the exhibit will be able to experience the students' audio recordings by scanning QR codes with their smartphones.

This project was made possible by the generous support of the National Endowment for the Arts, Simon & Schuster Publishing, and Plaid Elephant Books.

Celebrate the season with 12 Days of Winter Reading!
Everyone who completes 12 days of reading is a winner in this winter reading challenge! BCPL invites you to share your favorite recipes and learn some new ones in the best way possible -- by eating them with friends! Alethea Bruzek from the Boyle County Extension office will get things started with some dishes of her own, but we encourage all participants to try their hand. Cook up your favorite dish and bring it in! You can even get it included in our recipe catalog! This is a social event with food to share, friends to be made, and fun to be had.
This month’s theme is Holiday Favorites. (Ages 18+)
