Ingredients & Measurements:

Cake

  • 2 Cups Flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 stick butter and 1/2 cup shortening OR 2 sticks margarine
  • 1 cup water
  • 3 tbsp cocoa
  • 3 eggs beaten
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk or sour milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Frosting

  • 1 stick butter or margarine
  • 3 tbsp cocoa
  • 6 tbsp milk
  • 1 box powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts
  • 1 tsp vanilla
Instructions:

Cake

  1. sift flour and measure
  2. sift flour, sugar and salt together.
  3. Combine in a saucepan: margerine or butter, shortening water, and cocoa and bring to a boil.
  4. pour over flour and sugar mixture.
  5. In a separate bowl, put eggs, soda, buttermilk, and vanilla.
  6. Add to flour mixture and mix well.
  7. Bake in greased and floured shallow pan, (15.5x10.5x1)
  8. bake for 30 min at 350
  9. start the icing the last 5 minutes that the cake bakes.

Frosting

  1. In saucepan, mix better, cocoa, milk
  2. heat over low heat but do not boil
  3. add powdered sugar, nuts and vanilla to hot mixture
  4. mix well
  5. frost cake as soon as it is out of the oven
  6. cut into squares to serve.
