Ingredients & Measurements:
Cake
- 2 Cups Flour
- 2 cups sugar
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 stick butter and 1/2 cup shortening OR 2 sticks margarine
- 1 cup water
- 3 tbsp cocoa
- 3 eggs beaten
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 cup buttermilk or sour milk
- 1 tsp vanilla
Frosting
- 1 stick butter or margarine
- 3 tbsp cocoa
- 6 tbsp milk
- 1 box powdered sugar
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts
- 1 tsp vanilla
Instructions:
Cake
- sift flour and measure
- sift flour, sugar and salt together.
- Combine in a saucepan: margerine or butter, shortening water, and cocoa and bring to a boil.
- pour over flour and sugar mixture.
- In a separate bowl, put eggs, soda, buttermilk, and vanilla.
- Add to flour mixture and mix well.
- Bake in greased and floured shallow pan, (15.5x10.5x1)
- bake for 30 min at 350
- start the icing the last 5 minutes that the cake bakes.
Frosting
- In saucepan, mix better, cocoa, milk
- heat over low heat but do not boil
- add powdered sugar, nuts and vanilla to hot mixture
- mix well
- frost cake as soon as it is out of the oven
- cut into squares to serve.
