Teen Murder Mystery Theater at the Library

On Friday, October 23rd at 6:30 pm, the Library will host a Poe-themed Murder Mystery Theater just for teens. In "Rhymes Drop Dead," participants will become the detectives in a staged murder scene, using their wits and evidence to solve the case. A pizza dinner will be provided. Registration is required. Author Visit with Denise Park Parsons

The Library will host Louisville author Denise Park Parsons on Monday, October 19th at 6:30 pm in the Mahan House. Parsons will speak about her memoir, Touchstone: A Life Unseen, and about her experiences advocating for her daughter with Aicardi syndrome.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Touchstone: A Life Unseen touches on parenting, disability, blended families, our educational system, and the limits of medicine. Touchstone tells how Ms. Parsons encountered the "three Ds"—death, disability, and divorce—and remained on her feet. It is a candid, revelatory look into one woman’s struggle to advocate for her daughter.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Denise Park Parsons has over thirty years of management and consulting experience, currently as an independent college counselor. The principal of College Admissions Planning LLC, she also serves on the boards of Eastern Area Community Ministries and the Aicardi Syndrome Foundation. Parsons is a longtime resident of Louisville, Kentucky. Touchstone is her first book.

Alzheimer's Association to Explore Communication Strategies

On Wednesday, October 14th at 3:00 pm, the Alzheimer’s Association will present on Effective Communication Strategies. The presentation will explore how communication takes places when someone has Alzheimer’s. Attendees will learn how to decode messages from someone with dementia, as well as identify strategies to help connect and communicate at each stage of the disease.

Registration is required to ensure that adequate amount of materials are available. Those interested in attending may register at the Library or by calling the Alzheimer's Association at 1.800.272.3900. This free program is open to the public and will be held in the Community Room at the Boyle County Public Library.

Job Opening at the Library

Outreach Librarian

The Boyle County Public Library is looking for an energetic and dedicated person to provide library outreach services to Boyle County residents. This person will drive to locations throughout Boyle County and provide library services to residents who are unable to use library services through traditional means.

As a member of the Outreach staff, this person will be supervised by the Programming Coordinator and have a variety of job duties.  One of the most important duties will be to serve the informational, reference, and reading needs of library patrons of all ages, wherever the need exists.

Unpuzzling Poe events continue this week at the Library and in the community. Here's a look at what's coming up:



Bloody Boyle Blood Drive

Wednesday, October 7th from 10 am - 5 pm

Poe-themed blood drive with Central Kentucky Blood Center. Go to kybloodcenter.org or call 800.775.2522 to register to donate. Those who donate will receive a free pass to the Hustonville Haunted House.

 Cost: 1 pint of your blood


Genealogy Workshop

Wednesday, October 7th at 3:30 pm

On the anniversary of Poe's death, we offer you the chance to learn about the Library's resources that can aid in the research of those who have passed in your family! Registration is required. Call the Library to register. 859.238.7323

Friends of the Library Fall Film Series

Thursday, October 8th at 7 pm

The Boyle County Friends of the Library will sponsor a film series devoted to Edgar Allan Poe.

Synopsis: In this 1935 film, a brilliant surgeon obsessed with Poe saves the life of a beautiful woman and goes mad when he can’t have her. (1935 Film; 61 minutes)

Forkland Heritage Festival and Revue

Among other festivities, you will find skits illustrating Abraham Lincoln's fondness of Edgar Allan Poe and displays of 19th century Poe artifacts in the Lincoln Museum.

Shelby City Cemetery Tour
