Our annual Bookmark Contest is returning to celebrate the Newbery Medal’s 100th Anniversary! Youth ages 18 and under are invited to participate for chances to win Newbery Medal themed tote bags, shirts, and more starting on December 13! Create a bookmark based on your favorite Newbery Medal book or character on the bookmark form.

Download the form from our website or pick up printed copies at the Library starting December 13! Return the completed bookmark form to the Library once completed.

Bookmark entries must be submitted to the Library by end of the day Saturday, January 22. Library staff will vote on age group winners and an overall grand prize winner! Each age group winner and grand prize will also have their bookmark design printed for anyone to pick up to enjoy using!

Since 1922, lovers of children's literature -- children and adults alike -- anxiously await the announcement of the Newbery Medal for the "most distinguished contribution to American literature for children." This anniversary commemorates not only a century of captivating books, it celebrates the longevity and evolution of the award. The world has changed in the last 100 years, and with it, the Newbery Medal seeks to recognize stories that represent and respect all youth.

Newbery Medal winners and honors books will be on display in the Youth Department during the time of the Bookmark Contest. We’ll have a ballot box for you to vote for your favorite Newbery Medal winner! All entries will be entered to win a prize. The Youth Department’s Scavenger Hunt will be Newbery Medal winners’ covers hidden all over the department for kids to find. Pick up a list of all 100 year’s worth of Newbery Medal winners at the desk in the Youth Department. More programs in January will be announced soon!
